General Entrance Requirements for Associate Degree Programmes
For admission to the University's associate degree programmes, applicants must:
- meet the general entrance requirements, and the programme specific entrance requirements, if any; or
- hold such other qualifications deemed acceptable by the University as equivalent to the above-mentioned requirements.
The grades indicated below are the minimum acceptable but possession of the qualifications in no way guarantees acceptance.
Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE)
General Requirements
- E in 1 HKALE subject; or
- E in 2 HKALE AS subjects, which may include HKALE AS Use of English, and Chinese Language and Culture; and
- E in 5 HKCEE subjects (may include level 2 in English Language or Chinese Language)
English Language Requirements
- E in HKALE AS Use of English; or
- Level 2 in HKCEE English Language
Or one of the following:
- E in HKALE Literature in English / English Literature
- E in HKCEE English Language (Syl B)
- C in HKCEE English Language (Syl A)
- E in GCEAL English Literature
- C in GCEOL/GCSE English Language
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
- For Community College of City University (CCCU) -- score of 500 (paper-based test) or 200 (computer-based test)
- For Division of Building Science and Technology (BST) and School of Creative Media (SCM) -- score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test) or 79 (internet-based test)
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- For CCCU -- overall band score of 5
- For BST and SCM -- overall band score of 6
- College English Test: band 4 (applicable to CCCU only)
Chinese Language/Alternative Language Requirements
- E in HKALE AS Chinese Language and Culture; or
- Level 2 in HKCEE Chinese Language
Or one of the following:
- E in HKALE Chinese Literature
- E in HKALE Chinese Language and Literature
- E in HKCEE Chinese Language
- E in a language subject other than Chinese or English in HKCEE
- C in a language subject other than Chinese or English in GCSE/GCEOL
Other Qualifications
Other qualification may include an academic qualification from a local post-secondary institution or a professional qualification acceptable to the University. Qualifications attained by study at a local international school, or a non-local high school, at Grade 12 or equivalent, are also accepted as satisfying the General Entrance Requirements.
Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained in a language other than English will need an acceptable result in an approved English language qualification such as TOEFL or IELTS.
Mature Applicants
Mature applicants are eligible to apply for given programmes notwithstanding that they do not satisfy the requirements for "HKALE" or "Other Qualifications" above. Mature applicants must be over the age of 23* by 1 September of the year of admission and be able to demonstrate aptitude and suitability for the programme.
*For programmes offered by the Division of Building Science and Technology and the School of Creative Media, mature applicants must be over the age of 25 by 1 September of the year of admission.
