General Entrance Requirements for Bachelor's Degree Programmes (2017 Entry)

The qualifications listed below are the minimum required to satisfy the General Entrance Requirements for Bachelor's degree studies. In addition to the General Entrance Requirements, individual degrees/majors may require a specific subject background. Please refer to the respective programme pages (JUPAS programmesnon-JUPAS programmes) for details of programme-specific requirements.

Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination
  1. Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language; AND
  2. Level 2 or above in Mathematics and Liberal Studies; AND
  3. Level 3 or above in two elective subjects (excluding Applied Learning subjects). Mathematics extended modules (M1/M2) and “other languages” (at grade E or above) can be used to meet this requirement. If students take both M1 and M2, they are counted as one subject only.

GCE System
 
Grade E or above in three GCE A-level (or A2) / International A-level subjects. Two AS subjects are considered to be equivalent to one AL subject. The same subject cannot be counted at both the A Level and AS Level;
AND
Grade C or above in GCSE English Language or English Literature, or a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 79 (Internet-based test), or an IELTS overall band score of 6.5.

Post-Secondary Study

An accredited Associate Degree/Higher Diploma or equivalent qualification (final year or graduates) a tick a tick a tick

Completion of one year of Associate Degree/Higher Diploma (non-final year, with CGPA ≥3.0 or equivalent overall mark). [For applicants with a 13-year high school qualification (e.g. IB, GCE), advanced standing may be considered.]

Non-local Qualifications

Most school-leaving qualifications acceptable for university entry are recognised. Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained in a language other than English will need a satisfactory score in TOEFL [550 (paper-based test) or 79 (Internet-based test)], an IELTS (overall band score of 6.5), or other acceptable English qualifications. Notes:

  1. Students with a recognised qualification may be admitted to the University with advanced standing. Advanced standing is linked to the curriculum and graduation requirements. For details, please click here.
  2. Advanced standing entry is not applicable to BBA Global Business, BEng Environmental Science and Engineering, BSc Computational Finance, Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine.
  3. Advanced Standing II is available to majors with senior-year places only. Advanced Standing II applicants are normally expected to have completed the AD/HD award with a CGPA of 3.0 or equivalent overall mark, or a credit award. Senior-year (Advanced Standing II) admission is available to local students only. For details, click here.
  4. Mature local applicants are eligible to apply for admission to first-year studies even if they do not satisfy any of the above requirements. Mature applicants must be over the age of 25 by 1 September of the year of admission and be able to demonstrate their aptitude and suitability for study.
