JUPAS

The Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) provides a platform for students with Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination results to apply for admission to government-funded full-time Bachelor’s degree and Associate Degree / Higher Diploma programmes offered by the eight JUPAS participating-institutions, the non-government-funded full-time Bachelor’s degree programmes offered by the Open University of Hong Kong and the full-time Bachelor's degree programmes offered by the Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions / Sectors (SSSDP) institutions.

Step 1: Check your eligibility to apply through JUPAS

You are eligible to apply through JUPAS if

  • you are a secondary school student sitting for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) examination in the current year; or
  • you are a non-school applicant who wishes to apply for admission on the strength of your HKDSE examination results.

You are NOT eligible to apply through JUPAS if you are currently enrolled in a full-time or sandwich Bachelor’s degree programme offered under JUPAS, regardless of whether you wish to apply for admission on the strength of your HKDSE examination results.

Step 2: Check the JUPAS programmes you can apply for at CityU

The JUPAS programmes you can apply for at CityU are as follows:

  1. government-funded Bachelor's degree programmes and
  2. government-funded Associate Degree programmes

HKDSE students must apply for admission to first-year studies in a degree programme. Students are usually admitted with an undeclared major. For some Schools and Departments offering one major only, students are admitted directly to the major in the first year. For details, click here.

If you have applied for admission through JUPAS, you should NOT submit an application to the University again for any programmes listed under JUPAS. Otherwise, your direct application to the University will not be considered and any application fee paid will NOT be refunded. You may, however, still submit a direct application to the University for non-government funded programmes that are not offered through JUPAS.

Step 3: Check the requirements

Bachelor's Degree Programmes

For admission to Bachelor’s degree programmes at the University, the minimum General Entrance Requirements for HKDSE holders are:

  • Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language; AND
  • Level 2 or above in Mathematics and Liberal Studies; AND
  • Level 3 or above in two elective subjects* (including M1/M2).

      *Remarks:

  • Unspecified electives may include "other languages" at grade E or above.
  • If students take both Mathematics extended modules (M1 - Calculus and Statistics; M2 - Algebra and Calculus), they will be counted as one subject only.
  • Applied Learning subjects are not counted as elective subjects.

Colleges, Schools and Departments may establish additional requirements for the degrees offered by the College, School or Department. For details on the requirements specific to the College/School/Department, click here.

Government-funded Associate Degree Programmes

For admission to government-funded Associate Degree programmes at the University, the minimum General Entrance Requirements for HKDSE holders are:

  • Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language; AND
  • Level 2 or above in three other subjects (excluding Applied Learning subjects). Mathematics extended modules (M1/M2)* and "Other languages" (at grade E or above) can be used to meet this requirement. If students take both M1 and M2, they will be counted as one subject only.

* Subject to approval.

Step 4: How to apply

School and non-school applicants should submit their applications via JUPAS.

Step 5: How will my application be considered?

The application information that you submit via JUPAS is sent to CityU on a regular basis. We will also receive your examination results from the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority via JUPAS. We use this information to identify applicants who meet the entrance requirements of our programmes. Various types of admissions scores are then calculated to facilitate the selection of applicants for admission.

Applicants may be invited to attend an interview. Our interviews are mostly conducted in June and July, before the announcement of HKDSE examination results. Some interviews may also be conducted after the result announcement. For details of interview arrangements, click here. The selection of students for interview is primarily based on application information [e.g. band choices, exams results (if available), information on the OEA form and the school reference report].

Step 6: When will the Main Round offer results for 2016 entry be announced?

The Main Round offer results will be announced on 8 August 2016 (tentative). The offer you receive in the Main Round is the best offer possible. If you receive an offer in the Main Round, please follow the instructions announced via JUPAS to confirm your acceptance of the admission offer.
