College of Business

The College of Business is one of the largest business schools in Hong Kong, offering professional business education at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. We strive to be a globally-oriented business school at the forefront of innovation and knowledge - a key business education hub in China and for the world.

To consolidate our position as a centre of academic and professional excellence, we aim to:

  • advance the frontiers of business knowledge;
  • educate our future business leaders with a global orientation;
  • produce innovative and relevant research that enriches the understanding and practice of business;
  • develop business leaders with a broad understanding of China's marketplaces; and
  • contribute to the welfare of our faculty and staff members, students, alumni, university, business partners, nation, and the world at large.

Admission Arrangements - Four-Year Programme

JUPAS HKDSE students or direct applicants holding a senior secondary school-leaving qualification generally may apply for admission to the College of Business. The minimum graduation requirement for students of the four-year programme is 120 credits.

Students will not enter a major until after one year of study. During their first year, students will study a broad range of Gateway Education (GE) courses and College core courses. The top 20% of students [based on (i) cumulative grade point average (CGPA) at the end of Semester B; (ii) no failed grades in any courses in Semesters A and B; and (iii) completion of at least 30 credit units in Semesters A and B, including the number of credit units specified by the College for its required courses] will have free choice of the majors offered by the College. The other 80% students will be allocated a major of their choice, subject to availability of places and the selection criteria set by the College of Business.

Advanced Standing Admission

Direct applicants holding a 13-year school leaving qualification (e.g. IB, GCE A-level) may apply for direct admission to a major via the Advanced Standing I route, or to the College to study the four-year programme without advanced standing. The minimum graduation requirement for Advanced Standing I entrants is 93 credits.

Overseas Exposure

To equip graduates with the confidence to enter an international and culturally diverse workplace, internationalisation has been a priority for the College. We have over 170 exchange partner universities on 6 continents, providing 468 inbound and 405 outbound exchange opportunities for our business students.

Half of our BBA students embark on a Student Exchange or various Summer Study and Service Learning programmes. For the latter, students will participate in English immersion courses, volunteer work, homestay and cultural activities in India, the Philippines, New Zealand, the UK or the USA.

The College-based internship programme is designed to provide students with real life working experience in local and overseas contexts for at least six weeks in the summer. With placements in international business, banking, financial services, insurance, accountancy firms, etc., students are expected to gain an in-depth and practical understanding of business operations and the professional contexts.

In addition, the six departments of the College offer internship opportunities for students to acquire first-hand experiences in the business world before graduation. Students can apply for either part-time or full-time job placements in local, mainland and overseas companies.

Young Scholars Programme

“Nurtures outstanding students to become future leaders in the world.”

To help students become outstanding future leaders in the region/world, we have launched the Young Scholars Programme for BBA students, which offers the following:

  • overseas exposure during semester breaks, including study trips to renowned companies and universities;
  • internship placements in multi-national companies to be arranged locally or overseas;
  • networking with top business students admitted locally and overseas;
  • professional mentorships provided by professors and professional practitioners; and
  • cultivation of social responsibility through community services and voluntary work.

Scholarships and Financial Assistance

CityU and the College of Business offer various scholarships and financial assistance schemes to students according to academic merit or need. For details, please click here.

Student Exchange Fund

The Student Exchange Fund provides sponsorship to CityU full-time degree students with Hong Kong permanent resident status. Depending on the region/country of the host university, each student receives funding support ranging from HK$12,000 to HK$23,000 for a one-semester overseas exchange.

Increasing numbers of our BBA students benefit from the Student Exchange Fund for their outbound exchange experiences.

Overseas Summer Programmes

Under the Cultural and Language Immersion Scheme (CALIS) and the Service Learning (SL) programme, students receive a subsidy ranging from HK$4,000 to HK$30,000 that covers about two-thirds of the total cost of the programmes.

Career Placements

Our business students are highly sought after upon graduation. The Saturday South China Morning Post advertises, on average, over 50% of the jobs for business graduates, more than any other field of study.

Our Target

To equip students with the knowledge and skills to analyze and effectively manage in the international business environment. Specifically, the Programme seeks to help students develop the abilities to navigate and succeed in the changing global marketplace, especially in the increasingly important Asia Pacific region—including East Asia, Southeast Asia and Oceania. The Programme will help students understand how firms operate in the international environment and gain an in-depth understanding of the development and implementation of strategy and managerial activities in relation to cross-border business activities.

Start Your Career Here

In light of Hong Kong’s prominent position in Asia Pacific, and the region’s importance for Hong Kong, there is a growing need for well-trained business professionals who have a strong understanding of international business and feel comfortable in operating in the region. Yet, major business colleges do not have international business undergraduate programmes with a strong business focus on the region.

This programme nurtures the future business professionals who can work for local or foreign companies that have business and operations in the region, or have plans to enter or relocate within the region. This BBA IB programme provides courses, perspectives, and opportunities for students who plan to be active international managers with a focus on Asia. Toward this goal, our programme offers a variety of courses including international business, strategy, and global human resource management. These courses are designed to develop students’ analytic skills as well as the communication and teamwork skills.
