This programme is particularly appropriate for students with backgrounds in administration and policy studies, sociology, political science, economics, biology or chemistry who are seeking opportunities to specialize in environment-related topics and policies.

To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements.


What You Will Be Studying

Core courses will include:

·         The latest analysis of regional and global environmental and resource-depletion problems and trends;
·         International organizations which deal with environmental problem and solutions;
·         Environmental laws and treaties which affect Hong Kong businesses;
·         Research and presentation skills for practical participation in governance, management, and relations with the public, government and the mass media on environmental issues; and
·         Corporate social responsibility issues in relation to environmental problems and impacts.

Electives will allow students to focus on specific regions (Hong Kong, the mainland of China, and Southeast Asia); on specific resource issues and planning; on risk assessment; and on technical studies of environmental impact assessment, pollution monitoring and control, and energy savings and efficiency. Students can combine core courses and electives to match their career interests (business, government, non-governmental organizations, international organizations and academic studies).

Broadly, the EPS curriculum is composed of 4 knowledge building blocks.

1.     A sound base in scientific knowledge concerning the environment and how to make informed assessment;
2.     A firm foundation of social sciences knowledge concerning institutions, governments, international organizations, NGOs and international business corporations, in global, regional and local contexts;
3.     Opportunities for in-depth knowledge and independent studies on specific environmental issues such as energy, pollution, risk and resource management; and
4.     A solid foundation in applied ethics and its application in public policy analysis.
