Our Target

This programme aims to train students to be professionals in the digital media industry. It puts students on the forefront of broadcasting technology and enables them to learn a broad range of digital media skills, concepts, content, forms, trends and terminologies. It develops and extends students’ creative potential and nurtures their entrepreneurial expertise. It prepares graduates to take up artistic, innovative, technological and management roles in the ever changing media sector, which includes television, the internet and telecommunications.

The programme takes a comprehensive approach, balancing the content, technology and business sides of the broadcasting industry. It combines courses from the School of Creative Media, Department of Computer Science, Department of Media and Communication, Department of Marketing and Department of Management.

Upon graduation, students will be equipped to work on the creative, technological and managerial sides of the media industry. You will be qualified for a wide range of positions, such as TV producer, studio director, technical director, cinematographer, broadcast technician, sound designer, scriptwriter, studio manager, executive producer, programming manager, creative director, sales representative, scheduling and programming executive, e-marketing professional and entrepreneur in the creative industry.


How Do You Get In

To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements.

Consideration will be given to employment, travel, and other examples of life experience.

You may be required to sit for a written examination and attend an interview to gauge your creative potential.

To facilitate the assessment of your application, you are advised to submit a portfolio and/or a self-introduction letter to the School of Creative Media (SCM). Direct applicants, can submit their portfolio/self-introduction letter to SCM. (Pplease refer to SCM's website for the submission deadline. JUPAS applicants may present their portfolio and/or a self-introduction letter during their interview session. Portfolio materials may include still photography, paintings/drawings, sculpture, musical compositions/performances, films/videos, software, multimedia productions, academic or creative writing, or another form of imaginative activity.

What You Will Be Studying

The programme stresses both the theoretical and practical aspects of digital media broadcasting. It has a strong focus on the core skills of digital broadcasting such as media design and production. It also incorporates courses that provide a broad-based education on related issues in the broadcasting industry, including regulatory and ethical issues, cross-border culture, communication and marketing, as well as creativity and innovation management.  

You need to take courses on the basic skills and approaches shared by the digital media industry. Introductory courses cover a wide range of options such as digital production fundamentals, basic sound design, digital storytelling, marketing and communication theory.

You need to take more advanced courses and will be able to focus your study in your area of interest by taking one or more of the following elective concentrations:
  • Design and Production
  • Marketing and Management
  • Communication

You will have many opportunities to participate in study trips to the mainland of China, other parts of Asia and elsewhere. You may also have the opportunity to study abroad as an exchange student to enrich your educational experience. You are free to join the summer internship programme, enter your work in competitions and participate in festivals.
