The aim of this major is to provide the solid foundation necessary for students to embark on a successful career in Information Systems, Networking, System Administration, Software Development and Multimedia Computing fields. Three popular and professional technical training programmes are integrated into the major structure. They are:
The strong knowledge base gained in this major prepares graduates for further studies or employment in a wide range of economic sectors, mainly technology, but also business, banking, finance and trading in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region.
To be considered for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements and have studied an engineering-related or a science-related discipline at a high school or post-secondary institution.
For senior-year (Advanced Standing II) admission, applicants are normally expected to have completed an Associate Degree / Higher Diploma with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of ≥3.0 or an equivalent overall mark, or a credit award in an engineering-related or science-related discipline.

Industrial Placement Scheme (IPS)
In collaboration with industry, the Department aims to provide students with real work experience during their university years and thus better preparing them for work upon graduation through the Industrial Placement Scheme. Students embark on the Scheme by:
Participating in group industrial projects;
Undertaking summer placement; and
Completing their Industrial Final Year Project.
Students are connected to prominent industrial and business leaders through the Scheme. Around 80-100 places will be secured each year for this Scheme.
Other internship schemes which have been in place for many years include the Industrial Attachment Scheme (IAS), and Overseas Internship Scheme (OIS), that offer summer placement local and overseas; as well as the 12-month Co-operative Education Scheme (CES).
International Exchange and Summer Camp
Uplifting students' global outreach and international competitiveness through student exchange is one of the Department’s goals. In 2014/15 and 2015/16, close to 130 students were sent out to top universities in the USA, Singapore, Finland, Germany, Canada, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, UK, France, Belgium, Korea, Taiwan and mainland China for semester-long exchange and summer exchange.
Student Learning Support Schemes
Student learning is always the Department’s top priority, facilitated by the long-established Course Tutoring Scheme and Peer Tutoring Scheme. The schemes aim to nurture good learning skills in our students, particularly during their first and second year with EE. Outstanding senior year students are selected to coach students in study through tutorials, regular meetings, and out-of-classroom time. The Schemes have successfully created a positive learning ambience among peers and have been well received among students.
Each year, approximately 60 scholarships worth over HK$700,000 are granted to students in the Department of Electronic Engineering.
Over the years, CityU Electronic Engineering students have won many top prizes in various international, regional and local competitions and award schemes. Click here for more information.
