Our Target

We aim to provide you with professional training and educational experience that will transform you into a skilled and reflective practitioner. On completion of the programme, you will have acquired the core knowledge of social work practice and the analytical and interactional skills necessary for working with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. You also will have developed a sense of identity with, and commitment to social work professional values and ethics.

When you complete the programme, you will be qualified to become a Registered Social Worker and hold appointments as a Social Work Assistant. You will be able to work in both government and non-government organizations in the field of family welfare services, community development services, rehabilitation services, children and youth services, services for offenders and drug abusers, and services for senior citizens.

Professional Accreditation

Graduates of the programme are qualified for registration as Registered Social Workers (RSW) under the Social Workers Registration Ordinance.

Graduates can apply for:

  • Conversion programmes leading to a bachelor's degree in Social Work offered by CityU and other local universities;
  • Admission to the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Hons) programme at CityU with credit transfer;
  • Admission to the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Work with minor in counselling programme offered by CityU. Direct entry will be offered to Distinction holders;
  • Admission to the third year of the Bachelor of Social Work programme at the University of Queensland, Australia;
  • Admission to a one-year top-up Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Science offered by Sheffield Hallam University, UK, in collaboration with the Community College of City University;
  • Partial exemptions for studying social work or social sciences degree programmes in some UK, Canadian, US and Australian universities.
