Our Target

We welcome applications from students holding an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma in a wide range of subjects including social science disciplines, language studies, management, administration and communications. We aim to equip them with international perspectives and the applied skills necessary to achieve successful careers in the twenty-first century.

This programme will train you for careers in a number of fields such as international commerce and trade, non-governmental organisations and agencies, marketing firms, government departments, regional and international organisations, marketing agencies, eco- and cultural-tourism, international journalism, mass media organisations and education. Upon graduation, you will enjoy job opportunities such as development project planning and management, international news reporting and editing, tourism planning and management, regional and international market research and business planning, market development consultancy, international merchandising and teaching social and liberal studies. 


How You Get In

To be eligible for admission, you must satisfy the following requirements:
  • Normally a GPA of 3.0 or higher at associate degree or higher diploma level
    or
  • Hold another qualification deemed acceptable by the University as equivalent to the above

What You Will Be Studying

Our teaching and learning strategies emphasise the development of analytical and communicative skills in a wide range of professional settings. We also place considerable emphasis on critical understanding, oral presentations and well-articulated writing.

This programme has three core areas:

  • International Relations
  • Globalisation
  • Development Studies  

Each core area is introduced through theoretical foundation courses that cover concepts and approaches for analysing issues and problems in these domains.

Each of the three core areas also offers courses in current issues and empirical studies in which you will evaluate different perspectives, analyse empirical information and develop informed arguments. You will enjoy detailed engagement in a number of areas including international security, international political economy, the environment, poverty reduction, China in Asia, transnational social movement and international organisations.

You will also have the opportunity to choose programme electives from a wide range of courses such as international security, Asian Studies, Latin American politics, environment and energy in Asia and globalisation and socio-cultural change. 


Bonus Features

To broaden your knowledge and skill base to meet the challenges of a globalised, knowledge-based economy, you can join the College’s internship programme for work experience in Asia.

You can also broaden your horizons through field trips to mainland China and other Asian countries or by studying at an overseas university for a semester.


Did You Know?

Our programme is the first and the only of its kind in Hong Kong that focuses on international relations, globalisation and development issues with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region. You will be taught by scholars who appreciate the complexities and diversities of social, cultural, economic and political developments in the region and around the world, and who have particular expertise in Asian and International Studies. Subject to the availability of funding, International Studies Entrance Scholarships of HK$10,000 each are available for the top three applicants.
