JUPAS

What is JUPAS?

The Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) is a scheme designed to assist students with Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) results to apply for admission to full-time government-funded bachelor's degree and associate degree/higher diploma programmes offered by the eight member institutions of JUPAS, and the full-time non-government-funded bachelor's degree programmes offered by Open University of Hong Kong.

Step 1: Check your eligibility to apply through JUPAS

You are eligible to apply through JUPAS if

  • you are a secondary school student sitting for the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) in the current year; or
  • you are a non-school applicant who has either obtained or expects to obtain HKALE results in the current year.

You are NOT eligible to apply through JUPAS if you are currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree programme offered via JUPAS in one of the nine institutions, regardless of whether you wish to make the application on the strength of your HKALE results or not.

Step 2: Check the JUPAS programmes you can apply for at CityU

The JUPAS programmes you can apply for at CityU are as follows:

  1. government-funded bachelor's degree programmes and
  2. government-funded associate degree programmes

If you have applied for admission through JUPAS, you should NOT submit an application to the University again for any programmes listed under the JUPAS system. Otherwise, your direct application to the University will not be considered and any application fee paid will NOT be refunded. You may still submit a direct application to the University, for non-government funded programmes which are not offered through JUPAS.

Step 3: Check the requirements

For admission to our bachelor's degree programmes, the University's minimum General Entrance Requirements are:

  • Grade E or above in two HKALE AL subjects (or one HKALE AL + two AS subjects, excluding HKALE AS Use of English, and Chinese Language and Culture) AND
  • Grade E or above in AS Use of English and AS Chinese Language and Culture.

Note that besides the general entrance requirements, individual programmes may have additional requirements.

Associate degree programmes require:

  • Grade E or above in one HKALE subject [or two HKALE AS subjects which may include Use of English and Chinese Language & Culture] AND
  • Grade E or above in AS Use of English [or HKCEE English Language level 2], and AS Chinese Language and Culture [or HKCEE Chinese Language level 2] AND
  • Grade E (or level 2) or above in five HKCEE subjects.

Details are given in the JUPAS Guide.

Step 4: How to apply

School and non-school applicants should submit their applications via JUPAS.

Step 5: When will the Main Round Offer Results be announced?

The Main Round offer results will be announced on 29 July 2010 (tentative).

Step 6: What should you do if you are given an offer in the Main Round?

The offer you receive in the Main Round is the best offer possible. If you have an offer in the Main Round, please follow the instructions announced via JUPAS to confirm your acceptance of the admission offer. If you do not complete the required steps by the specified deadline, you will be regarded as having declined the offer and thereby given up the opportunity for admission to all study programmes offered under JUPAS in the same year.
