Special Admissions Scheme for current-year AD/HD graduates

What is Special Admissions Scheme?

With a view to providing study opportunities for students with associate degree/higher diploma qualifications, the University introduced the Special Admissions Scheme (SAS) in 2000. The Scheme is available to current-year graduates of an associate degree or a higher diploma programme recognised by the University.

Successful applicants of the SAS route will be granted credit transfer upon successful admission, leading to a reduction of the number of credits required to obtain bachelor's degree.

For 2010 entry, around 680 places are available for senior-year admission to government-funded bachelor's degree programmes.

Which programmes accept applications under the Special Admissions Scheme (SAS)?

Before you apply, you should check the list of programmes that accept applications for 2010 entry under the Special Admissions Scheme. For other programmes including non-government funded top-up degree programmes offered by the University, applications are received through the direct application route. Who is eligible to apply for admission under SAS?

To be eligible to apply for admission under the Special Admissions Scheme, you must be a final-year student of an accredited associate degree (AD) / higher diploma (HD) programme recognised by the University.

There are no CGPA or overall mark requirements for the purpose of application. However, as competition for admission is keen, accepted applicants are normally expected to have completed the AD/HD award with a CGPA of >3.0 or equivalent overall mark, or a credit award.

Offers of admission and credit transfer will be conditional upon the successful attainment of the AD/HD award, with a specified CGPA, overall mark or award classification if deemed appropriate.

How does this scheme work?

A key feature of the Special Admissions Scheme is the award of transfer credits, in recognition of prior studies, upon admission. Credit transfer varies among programmes. Successful applicants who are offered 30 or more transfer credits will be admitted to the senior year; otherwise, they will be admitted to the first year of study.

As a reference for application, examples of credit transfer are given at Credit Transfer Arrangement.

When to apply and how much is the application fee?

Applications are accepted starting 16 November 2009. Please refer to the programme information at www.cityu.edu.hk/admo/programmes for the application commencement date and deadline of individual programmes. The application fee (per programme) is HK$100 for online applications.
