Amid the coronavirus health threat, our thoughts are with the many students seeking admission to CityU. Some of you may be preparing for your final examinations. Others may be sitting or have taken their examinations under unusual circumstances. For students affected by examination cancellations or deferrals, we understand that you may have many questions about our recognition of ‘assessed’ results, or how we can handle your applications when the examination results cannot be provided.
The University is keenly aware of the challenging situation faced by our prospective students. We realize the need to exercise flexibility and consider available alternatives to support students to progress to higher education during this difficult time. We are closely monitoring any changes to examination arrangements and will consider available options on each case.
Here are some special arrangements we have made for 2020 entry:
We understand that international students may graduate at different times. We are therefore making available, for the first time, an option for non-local students to apply for January admission in Semester B 2020/21 for some programmes.
If your examination has been postponed due to the coronavirus situation in your country, we are prepared to consider a deadline extension for meeting the admission conditions, or defer your admission to Semester B, on a case-by-case basis.
Following the cancellation of examinations, the University has decided to accept the 'calculated' grades issued by the relevant GCEAL or IAL examination bodies, and the 'assessed' diploma points and subject grades issued by IBO as evidence of students' academic ability. For GCEAL/IAL students, the latest teacher assessed grades issued by schools will also be accepted. Offers to be made will use these calculated/assessed grades for setting admission conditions. For offered applicants, confirmation of their conditional offers and scholarship awards will be based on the official result documents issued by the relevant recognized authority. Please upload these documents when available via your application account for processing.
For students who are unable to sit TOEFL or IELTS due to test cancellation at an official centre, the University will accept comparable DET scores, 'TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition' and 'IELTS Indicator' to fulfil the admission condition for English language.
For Indonesian students who cannot provide the SMA UN results because of examination cancellation, we will conduct an interview to determine if their admission offers can be confirmed. As UN is required for admission, we are handling the exam cancellation with the maximum flexibility. Cancellations of other examinations, if happened, will be considered case-by-case.
