General Entrance Requirements for Bachelor's Degree Programmes (2023 Entry)

The qualifications listed below are the minimum required to satisfy the General Entrance Requirements for Bachelor's degree studies. In addition to the General Entrance Requirements, individual degrees/majors may require specific subject backgrounds. Please refer to the respective programme webpages (JUPAS programmesnon-JUPAS programmes) for details of programme-specific requirements.

Grade E or above in three GCE A Level (or A2) / International A Level subjects (two AS subjects are considered to be equivalent to one AL subject. The same subject cannot be counted at both the A Level and AS Level)
AND
Grade C / Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language or English Literature, or a TOEFL score of 79 (Internet-based test), or an overall IELTS band score of 6.5.

International Baccalaureate
(IB) Diploma
An IB Diploma for admission to first-year studies. For Advanced Standing I admission, a minimum diploma point score of 30 (out of 45) is required.

Remarks: Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (HL/SL) and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation (HL/SL) are accepted for meeting the General Entrance Requirements. A small number of programmes have specific mathematics requirements. Click here for details.

Post-Secondary Study

An accredited Associate Degree/Higher Diploma (AD/HD) or equivalent qualification (final year or graduate). a tick a tick a tick

Completion of one year of AD/HD (non-final year, with CGPA ≥ 3.0 or an equivalent overall mark). (For applicants with a 13-year high school qualification [e.g. IB, GCEAL], advanced standing may be considered.)

Non-local Qualifications

Most school-leaving qualifications accepted for university entry are recognised. Applicants whose entrance qualifications were obtained in a language other than English will need a satisfactory TOEFL score ≥ 79 (Internet-based test), an overall IELTS band score ≥ 6.5 (Academic Module), or another acceptable English qualification. Notes:

  1. Not all programmes accept advanced standing entry.  Advanced standing programmes have a suffix "A" in the programme codes (e.g. 1016A).
  2. Advanced Standing II is available to majors with senior-year places and to local students only. Advanced Standing II applicants are normally expected to have completed an AD/HD award with a CGPA ≥ 3.0 or an equivalent overall mark, or a credit award. For details, click here.
  3. Mature local applicants are eligible to apply for admission to first-year studies even if they do not satisfy any of the above requirements. Mature applicants must be over the age of 25 by 1 September of the year of admission and be able to demonstrate their aptitude and suitability for study.
