There is an increasing number of legal tasks in which a detailed knowledge of mathematics is a significant asset to lawyers. The law-math double degree programme therefore fills an important market need in the legal profession. The training provided by this double degree programme will bring additional mathematical knowledge to law students and equip them with critical skills in areas such as probability and statistics, quantitative analysis and formal logic that are becoming increasingly important in the legal world. The mathematical and computational skills that the graduates acquire in this double degree will give them an advantage in several legal fields.
Local applicants to this programme (admission code: 1220) will be considered for admission to first-year studies in the Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science in Computing Mathematics.
To be considered for admission, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements and the following programme-specific entrance requirements:
English-language Requirements
an overall IELTS band score of 7; OR
a TOEFL score of 600 (paper-based test) OR 100 (internet-based test); OR
an IB English (SL/HL) score of 6; OR
grade B/6 in First Language OR grade A/7 in Second Language of IGCSE English; OR
grade C in HKALE AS Level Use of English; OR
level 5 in HKDSE English Language; OR
other equivalent qualifications.
Mathematics Requirements
a HL Math score of 4 in IB Diploma; OR
grade D in GCEAL Further Math; OR
an SAT Math score of 600; OR
level 3 in AP Calculus BC; OR
level 3 in HKDSE Mathematics; OR
other equivalent qualifications.
Students will study a mix of law and mathematics courses throughout the 5 year of study, with the fifth year on self-financing.
The law component of this double degree covers the required legal units and entitles graduates who wish to practice law in Hong Kong to apply for a position in the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) programme which we offer at City University.
