Department of Public International Affairs

The Department of Public and International Affairs is a multidisciplinary department with a multinational faculty and a strong international orientation. With faculty members graduating from many of the world’s top universities and with a commitment to leading edge research and high quality teaching, the Department can lay a strong claim to be the leading department in its field in the region.


School of Law

The School of Law aspires to be an internationally renowned centre for legal research and teaching in the Asia-Pacific region. The School’s mission is to provide students with an excellent education and to contribute to the advancement of knowledge. Through co-operation with other law schools and professional organisations, the School aims to foster an environment in which both students and staff can develop and use their legal knowledge, professional skills and expertise for the benefit of the entire Hong Kong community.


Our Target

In terms of its law component the programme aims to :

  1. provide a liberal education in the theory and practice of law at the level and rigour appropriate for an undergraduate degree;
  2. equip students with a critical understanding of law and legal institutions so as to enable them to serve the needs of Hong Kong and the international community; and
  3. facilitate the development of a range of intellectual skills, in particular the ability to think analytically and critically, to solve problems, and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

In terms of its Public Policy component the programme aims to :

  1. provide students with a comprehensive education in the common core theories, concepts, and knowledge bases of public policy, public management, and political science;
  2. enable students to specialize in public policy, public management, or political science for gaining an understanding of the essential theories, principles, dynamics, and analytic approaches of these bodies of knowledge;
  3. equip students with the theoretical, conceptual, and analytical tools to understand comprehensively public policy, public management, and political developments in Hong Kong, China, and the contemporary global world;
  4. Produce graduates who can meet effectively the human resources needs of a wide range of public and private sector employers in administrative, management, and policy and political analysis positions, as well as in the media and non-governmental organizations.

The programme also aims in enabling students to develop interdisciplinary approaches to issues of law and public policy.

 


Entrance Requirements for JUPAS Applicants

To be considered for admission to the double degree programme, HKDSE students should achieve Level 5 or above in English Language and satisfy the minimum entrance requirements.

Professional Recognition

The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree is a recognised qualification for admission to the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL), a prerequisite for entering the legal profession in Hong Kong.
